Speaking of being worried about a pitcher. Matt Morris was just atrocious. 57 pitches to get through 1 2/3 innings.......29 of them balls......while giving up 7 earned runs...with every single earned run being richly deserved. 5 hits and 4 walks.......just terrible. He really wasn't close. I saw nothing resembling good velocity.....no control.....nothing. I did see 2 or 3 good curveballs..........but for some reason he was throwing them all on 1 strike counts. Then he would get to a 2 strike count.....and not be able to finish off the hitter. The only thing that saved him........if you can give up 7 ERs and still be "saved".......... was that he gave up no extra base hits.

It's Spring Training.....1st outing........and it means nothing........but add it to last year's performance.......and I am REAL worried.

Yes, I'd have to say this is a somewhat alarming development too. I guess the thing that keeps bothering me is....if he cracked those ribs just from pitching last year, what's to keep it from happening again? Makes you wonder if there isn't some underlying bone disease or else some seriously out of whack mechanics.

The bright side is if Ortiz can make a comeback, we have Sanchez and Lincecum as insurance. We owe Morris a pretty fair chunk of change, but I think it's only for this year and next year. If we have to replace him, and can do it with a minimum salary guy, we should be alright. If he comes around, all the better.
