Bengie Molina takes his lead off of 1B. Bengie had one of his better offensive games. He went 2 for 4 with a double, a single and a strikeout. Bengie really is a truck. With 2 out in the 2nd, Bengie was on 2B when Kevin Frandsen got a 2 out single to medium deep CF. Bengie took off on the crack of the bat. Tim Flannery waved him around 3B.....and he was thrown out, to end the inning, by 20 ft. Molina was not even at 3B when Lofton fielded the ball. When Kenny Lofton can throw you out by 20 ft at the plate....you are in trouble. Memo to Tim Flannery; Molina is a truck......even with 2 outs.....he needs a double to score from 2B. DON'T SEND HIM.

I remember reading a poll of baseball players in Sports Illustrated last year, and they were asked who is the slowest runner in the majors. Bengie got over 50% of the vote. That's truly staggering.

Yes, Bengie will be his own story this season ... his clutch hits, his handling of pitchers, and his failure to score in scoring position (that's 3rd base for him). Listening to the webcasts, I find it remarkable how more and more Doug is sounding like his dad to me (and how refreshing it sounds). When Molina was thrown out yesterday, Dougie didn't say it ... but you KNEW it was by 20 feet!

Finally, yesterday Tolbert was asked by Ralph if Bengie could beat Dick Bovetta (sp?) in a foot race ... to which Tom teased "not if it's over 17 feet!"

Yes, it's true, Bengie couldn't score from 3d base on a double. But his RBIs and handling of the pitchers will be great. And he will be the first hitting cather in a Giant's uni since... when?
