Todd Linden had another good day today. He started in CF and went 3 for 4 with a walk, single, triple and HR. Todd knocked in 3 runs and scored 2. Here he returns to the batter's box after a foul ball....right before he hit his HR in the 8th.

if linden starts, we're doomed. im glad he's doing good in spring, but it's not going to last. Winn's got the career experience and he'll regain his form.

How does Linden's range look in center? And thanks for the blog, it's really great!

Where does the "Linden starts, we're doomed" come from? The guy has definitely showed he can hit in AAA. He has put a lot of work into his hitting over the past 1-2 years. It is not at all unreasonable to expect he can perfrom something like he did over his minor league career with reasonably regular major league ABs - which I expect he will ge t this year. In fact, I think he will get plenty of ABs - and I think the team hopes he wins the starting spot for next year. I do expect Winn will return to his career norms - but I think each Roberts, Linden, and /Winn get about 400 ABs this year.

With the way Linden is putting his improved skills on display I think he could/should get equal playing time with Winn.

And thanks for the blog!

while i do agree that winn should start because of his career experience, i'd probably only give him 20-30 (70 at bats or so) to prove that he has regained his form. otherwise boch should pen linden in as the RF starter, of course taking into consideration his performace as the 4th OF.

Well, it's up to Linden. zI think he is being given a legit shot or chance. No promises, but he gets to play, roughly equally with Roberts and Winn for a couple of months. If he is - and continues to - hit 290 with decent (25) HR power and acceptable defense, he either pushes Winn to the bench or into a platoon w/ Roberts. In otherwords, the starters job is there - and he is being given every opportunity to grab it.

Hard to say on Linden's range. He has plenty of speed to play a decent CF. Most people forget that Linden has really decent speed.......he looks like he should be a plodder, but he isn't.

Looks like he is not getting a good read on the ball and his first step is usually a little delayed. That might be a function of inexperience and the difference in angles from the corners to center. Ask me this question again on March 28th. See if his jump on the ball improves with experience.
