Kevin Frandsen got the start at 2B. He had one of his better offensive days, going 3 for 4 with 2 singles and a HR. Unfortunately, his HR was a solo job.. He was caught stealing in the 7th and left on base in the 2nd. He struck out in the 9th, in a 3-4 game with a man on 2B and 1 out. Kevin's HR was pulled to the back of the LF bullpen and was not affected by the wind.

IF he clears waivers.
He can't be out of options yet, surely?
For some reason, I thought you were talking about Niekro. Too much wine with dinner I guess.
Of course Frandsen has options. But I think it is a done deal that he is the utility guy. Who else would get that job? Tomas DeLaRosa? DeLaRosa isn't on the 40-man roster....of course with Niekro, Ellison and Threets on the bubble.......there should be a couple of spots opening up.
He's going to get the same shot all the Giants system guys get - start as a utility/backup guy, get 200-375 ABS to show what you can do at the plate and in the field. If he hits 280 he'll get a shot to win a starting position next year. If he is sub 250, anything can happen. I am in agreement with the Giant's philosophy (and that of many other teams) of not just handing a starting position to an unproved young guy and waiting and waiting, hoping he can learn to hit major league pitching. The Kansas City's can do that, but contending teams can't. See Niekro, L, circa 2006. I also agree the F Alou approach of parking young guys at the end of the bench is counter productive. I acknowledge that a guy has to see regular ABs. Regular ABs = 10-20 per week, week in, week out. That is regular enough. If a guy can't hit every other day, he won't hit playing every day.
is he in the air in this picture? it looks like his spikes aren't touching the ground
I agree with you Dr. B. Last year, I think it was Ellison who Alou just parked at the end of the bench for months at a time and of course, when he got in he didn't hit a lick. And pinch hitting also takes a certain mind set. But what I am talking about is regular, though limited, playing time, such as starting every 2nd or 3rd day. This will give a guy 10-15 ABs a week - and not in a pinch hitting role, but as a "starter," as in 3-4 ABs in a game.
Yes, Frandsen is in the air. He has a bad habit of "bouncing" as the pitcher delivers the ball.
