Giants vs Mariners

OK....so I had to include 1 photo of Ichiro so you know I do pay attention to a few non-Giants players.

Good day at the old park today as the Giants beat a split-squad Seattle Mariner's team 5-4. The Giants jumped to a 5 run lead with 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd. From that point on, it was hang on and see if the Giants' pitchers could hold the lead. Steve Kline and Billy Sadler each gave up 2 runs to make it close, but Vinnie Chulk and Kevin Correia slammed the door to cement the Giants' win. I did not get a good photo of Correia, so I did not review his performance as a caption. Kevin gave up a lead off single, to further worry the fans, but a 6-4-3 DP cleared the bases and another groundball to SS ended the game and gave Kevin the save.

Offensively, Dave Roberts had a leadoff single in the first and scored the first run of the game. He also got on base one other time with a walk. I think that is about it. Bochy is having his regulars go later into the game than either Alou or Baker did. Since there were no late runs...this means that the replacements all got only 1 AB (except Ellison). Of the replacements, only Ellison (twice), Ortmeier and Schierholtz got on base.

Tomorrow is at Tucson Electric Park , against the Diamondbacks. I am not sure, but I think the wife and I are going to take the day off tomorrow. I am not overly fond of the 4 hour round trip to Tucson, so this is a good day to take off. If I do take the day off....I will post a few photos so none of you have withdrawal pains.

I thought they were supposed to play the A's tomorrow and they decided to cancel it? Or am I just hallucinating or something?

That was a "B" game. The regularly scheduled "A" game is vs the D-Backs in Tucson.

Let's not make these days off a habit!!! lol

Great coverage once again. I past your blog site to a few of my friends. They all love it..

It was mentioned after Saturday's game that Pedro and Jason had two and one opposite field hits respectively. While I find it hard to believe (unless Pedro rotated his stance 90 degrees clockwise), it does beg the question whether this is random or perhaps some winter ball experiment or Bochy decree.

Hank, if it wouldn't be too much trouble (and since the Giants were dead last in Opp field hits last season), could you make a note on your scorecard of Opp field hits and report the number and who got them in your daily summaries? Just for me? Please?

If not, I understand. Never mind.

ichiro is the man. i got a chance to see him play when i was visiting grandparents in Seattle. amazing coverage and he has a killer arm too.

Ichiro supposedly wants out of Seattle after this year. I wonder how many triples he'd get playing for SF.

i read that he thought it was too easy here (i guess level-of-play) and that when his seattle contract expired he'd retire and go back to japan. not sure where i read it though
