Steve Kline threw the 5th inning and after a couple of good appearances in a row, appears to be back in the mix for a lefty reliever. He had a 1-2-3 inning and believe it or not struck out 2 batters, one swinging and one looking.

Starting with Taschner, Giants' relievers threw 7.1 scoreless innings. Victor Santos gave up 1 single in his inning of work. Billy Sadler gave up 2 singles in 2 innings, one of which was erased on a DP. Sadler also struck out 1 batter.

Merkin Valdez tried to have a bad inning, but catcher Guillermo Rodriguez would not let him. Merkin only got 1 out on his own but still had a 1-2-3 inning. After a groundout to SS, Merkin hit the next batter, who was immediately caught stealing on a perfect throw by Rodriguez. Merkin then gave up a single to the next batter, who also was gunned down while trying to steal. Your everyday 1-2-3 inning. It's nice to have a back-up catcher (back from injury) who can actually play defense.
