Matt Cain started the game today and was close to overpowering. He went 3 full innings on 39 pitches (25 strikes). As opposed to Lincecum keeping the ball down in his outing the other day....most of what Matt threw was up in the zone, and for the most part, the Cubs still couldn't hit it. Matt allowed a runner in the 1st on an error by Frandsen and a runner in the 2nd on a walk (although he faced only 3 batters thanks to a 3-6-1 DP). In the 3rd he got 2 quick outs on a strikeout and a popup before allowing back to back singles (the first a bunt) before ending his day with a called strike 3.
Cains line for the day; 3 innings, 12 batters faced, 2 hits (one a bunt), 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He looked like he was still strong at the end, but that 40 pitch pitch count limited him as it did Lincecum a couple of days ago.
