I absolutely love your site! The daily updates are great and I love to hear from another source besides Chris Haft how everyone is doing. I was wondering how much you have seen of Manny Burriss and Brian Bocock? Which do you think is the more appropriate heir to Omar? I love Frandsen, but he is not the long term answer at shortstop.

Ben:

I really haven't seen a lot of Bocock. I saw Manny Burris quite a bit during this last Arizona Fall League season (October-November). It was very disappointing to hear of his performance at San Jose (.165) that got him demoted to Augusta. But he rebounded with a .321 average at Augusta and his .365/.450/.873 with 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts (in only 17 games) was quite impressive.

They say Bocock's defense is exceptional......but personally......from what I have seen I like Burriss a lot.

I like what I have read so far about Burriss, but I have not heard a whole lot about Bocock and was curious if you had seen anything promising in him in camp. Whatever the case I am sure I will be getting a closer look at them in the not-too-distant future for the Grizzlies. I live in Fresno right now for college so I dont have time to go to many games, but I was able to make time to watch Lincecum throw 7 dominant innings last year a few weeks before he got called up. Thanks for the answer to my question! GO GIANTS!!!

GF9,

When you saw Manny in the AFL, did if finally seem like he has figured out he's not a power hitter and needs to stay short to the ball every time?

In terms of defense, despite all his speed, Manny isn't particularly quick in the field and his arm is barely average for shortstop. I have trouble believing he'll be anywhere other than 2B at higher levels.

Of course, I also have trouble believing he'll do anything offensively in Connecticut and Bochy is talking about him as a dark-horse for the bigs, so what do I know?!?!

David:

Manny was a swat and run hitter in the AFL. Just put the bat on the ball and beat it out.....exactly what he should do with his speed. I also saw no problem with his arm defensively. His range did seem a little limited for someone with his speed though.
