This was the final group to take regular BP today. L to R: Buster Posey, Conor Gillaspie (in the cage) Andres Torres and Matt Downs. Gillaspie and Downs hit the ball well, but neither of them hit the ball with the same authority as Posey. The ball just sounds different coming off of Posey's bat. More of an authoratative CRACK! Downs did miss a HR by a foot or two. I didn't realize he had 17 HRs in 437 ABs at San Jose last year (to go along with .304 and 75 RBI), so he has some power.

That is the most honest assessment of Posey's hitting that I have heard in a while. Having watched Buster for those three years at FSU, I've always told people "it just sounds different" when he hits it. You're the only other person that I've seen say that after watching him hit bp.
On another note, glad to see that y'alls hitting coach straightened out whatever was wrong with Buster's swing. Posey is quick to learn, so combine that with a good hitting coach and you've got quick fixes galore!

Downs also has 3 HRs in 86 ABs in Fresno last year, giving him 20 between 2 levels in 2008. His numbers show he struggled a little after jumping AA, but I think he has an interesting bat.
