I am not so sure about this signing, but Edgar Renteria looks pretty good in a Giant uniform. It looks to me like he has shed most if not all of the extra baggage he was carrying last year. During batting practice, he was hitting the ball pretty well for the first day of practice. Towards the later part of his BP session he started spraying the ball around pretty good with a good number of line drives. I like the way he fields balls, using the almost extinct two-handed method. It was only practice, but I thought he showed pretty good range and a strong arm. He didn't look like Omar Visquel, but he didn't look like Eugenio Velez either.

Good to hear the positive reports on Renteria. Giants could be fielding a very young infield and his experience can help.

It's too bad Velez can't seem to figure out the fielding side of things. He could be a pretty useful player if he had any kind of glove. Though he'd have to work on the whole not getting picked off thing, too...

Anyway, great site. I'll be checking in every day, that's for sure.

I don't expect Renteria to hit .330, but I think he could be one of the surprise players of the season, and certainly a big upgrade on offense from the last two seasons.

Hank I'm telling you right now: In the big games that we play in 2009, we are going to be stoked when Edgar comes to the plate and takes his position at short. I feel REALLY good about him on our team. I think he's a total pro that has been overlooked. As a matter of fact, let's drink to Edgar right now!

DrBGiantsFan, I haven't seem that signature for over a year. Where did you go? Still in the IE? Where are you blogging? Abandon McC Chrons? I am really looking forward to the SJ Giants travels to San B'do and Rancho

I'm fairly computer illiterate and I was never able to log back onto McChron after they went to the new server or whatever it was. Plus, I've just been very busy with work and family. I still post on the sfgiants.com message board, mostly in the prospect thread.

I look forward to seeing the SJ Giants down here in SoCal this season. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Bumgarner and some other young stars are going to be on the team, at least at the beginning of the year.
