The first pitcher in todays "live" batting practice session was Armando Benitez. I was more than a little surprised that he threw live BP 2 out of 3 days. I would think he must not be to unhealthy for the Giants to allow that.

He still has a gut, but he looks like he has lost a lot of weight
Were ther any Marlins scouts in attendance? Seriously though...if he truly is healthy and doesn't bring the lousy attitude we could do worse at closer.
tngiants.....I could be wrong, but I don't think scouts scout early Spring Training. At least I don't see the radar guns and clipboards that I do during the Spring games and the AFL season.
I know...it was my attempt at a joke...hence the "seriously though" remark that followed. I just can't decide if I want him gone at any expense or to hope he does well and gives us a decent closer.
"It is kind of random how we really dislike one but not another."-- There's nothing random about a guy who throws several teammates under the bus for being "out of position" or "running like babies", or proclaiming "i did my job" after a late innings loss.
As for looking trimmer...I remember people extolling Armando's healthier, stronger appearance during Spring Training last year. Still didn't keep him off the DL for the beginning of the season.
I have been a Giants fan for as long as I can remember. I have had Giants Regular Season Tickets for 25 years (since 1985) and Spring Training Season Tickets since the "new" Scottsdale Stadium opened in 1992. I have gone to Spring Training every year, except the strike year, since 1987. I go to A LOT of Giants games. I also go to Arizona for the Arizona Fall League every October/November. I figure I attended about 125-130 games in calendar year 2008......almost all of them involving Giants players. Baseball is a great game.....Giants' baseball is the best part of a great game!

I dislike Benitez immensely...but if he could close games....I would make a pact with the devil. That's where Mando comes in.
The truth is a great many athletes are cocky, arrogant, and unpleasant. It is kind of random how we really dislike one but not another.
He doesn't look fat to me either.
